Kiosk mode is for a tablet at the front desk, in full screen, that restarts on its own for the next person. After each submission, the form comes back blank, with nothing from the previous response on screen. At ClÃnica Vitta, in Miami, the "Check-in form" sits on a tablet at the counter: each client fills it in on arrival and hands the device to the next one.
How to turn it on
- In Forms › (form) › Edit › "Appearance" card, turn on Kiosk mode.
- In Restart after (seconds), choose 5 to 120 seconds. The default is 10. It is the time to read the thank-you page before the form comes back. Vitta uses 15.
- Publish. Kiosk mode is part of the draft and only reaches the tablet after you publish.
- On the tablet, open the form's regular link (or scan its QR code). There is no special kiosk link.
What happens on the tablet
- Full screen — a button at the top puts the form in full screen. It is a button, not automatic, because browsers only allow full screen after a tap. Tap it once when setting up the tablet. If the device's browser does not offer full screen, the button does not show.
- After submitting — the thank-you page shows with the countdown "A new form starts in 15 s." When it reaches zero, the form comes back blank.
- Instant restart — if Allow submitting another response is on in the "After submission" card, the Submit another response button shows next to the countdown, so the next person does not have to wait.
- Each restart is a new visit — in Analytics, each time the form comes back counts as a new view, as if another person opened the link.
What does not work in kiosk mode
- Redirect after submitting — it is ignored, even with rules or a default address in "Redirect based on the answer". Sending the tablet to another site would take the form away from the next person. The editor warns you when both are on.
- Save and continue later — the button does not show, and a "continue later" link opened on the tablet starts blank. That link would show one person's answers to whoever picked up the device next.
Everything else still applies: conditions, steps, response limit, closing date and One response per person. If Vitta uses email as the key, someone who already filled in the form and tries again on the tablet gets the notice on the field.
Tip for the tablet
Kiosk mode takes care of the form, not the device. To stop people from leaving the browser, use the tablet's own app pinning feature (Guided Access on iPad, App pinning on Android) and keep the tablet plugged in.
Where to go next
- Thank-you page and redirect (Appearance and after submission collection) — the text people read during the countdown.
- Response limit, closing date and one response per person (Form logic collection) — rules that still apply on the tablet.
- Dynamic and static QR codes (Share collection) — open the form on the tablet without typing the link.
- Partial responses, save and continue later and Google Tag Manager (Responses collection) — "save and continue later", which is turned off in kiosk mode.
In short: turn on Kiosk mode in the Appearance card, choose 5 to 120 seconds to restart and publish; on the tablet, the Full screen button makes the form fill the screen, and after each submission it comes back blank on its own; redirect and save and continue later are turned off, and all other rules still apply.
